4-H Zimbabwe did a three-day pfumvudza/intwasa training in Ward 10, 11, and 12 in Chiwundura. The organisation`s aim was to ensure community farmers in the community are fully capacitated on the knowledge of conservative farming. Agritex officers form the districts led the demonstrations.
The sessions included the presence of the Head of Agronomy for Midlands, Beauty Dzvairo and the supervisor for the Agritex officers Chiwundura Rural District, Samson Chitura. There was also the presence of Village Heads and Councilors from each Ward.
Agritex officer for Ward 11, Avon Rebecca demonstrated the land preparation and chemical application stage to the community farmers. She emphasized on the need to plough across a slope so that the rain does not erode the soil.
The community members participated in the on-field practical sessions and made sure to cover the whole field in all the selected homesteads.
One of the beneficiaries and host for ward 12, 78 year old, Gogo Dhlamini expressed her utmost gratitude for the seeds that the organisation donated.
“I am very grateful for the work that is being done by 4-H Zimbabwe in empowering vulnerable members in Chiwundura Rural District. In my old age, it is hard for me to finish ploughing the whole field, therefore this work done today has assisted me. It is such a pleasure to be considered like this and I`m hoping that other people in other areas will also receive similar favour” said Gogo Dhlamini.
Closing the ceremony in ward 10, one of the village heads from the ward, Jaheni Zororo gave closing remarks. He encouraged community members to embrace the knowledge imparted by 4-H Zimbabwe so that the community adapts to Climate Change and are food secure.
