On Saturday the 25th of January, 4-H Zimbabwe held a fruit tree planting session in one of its established gardens ( Chitubu garden) in Chiwundura Rural District. This initiative was also aimed at capacitated the community members with the essential knowledge, skill and resources for their gardens. The fruit tree planting session was inspired by the need to have a garden with a balanced nutrition, comprising of fruit trees, vegetables and fish farming.

The fruit tree planting session was facilitated by Agritex officers from the Ward, who led demonstrations on the process of planting each fruit tree. 4-H Zimbabwe Foundation Programs Manager, Mr Didmus Dewa gave an explanation on why the organisation is doing this fruit tree planting program. “Our main fight is against Climate Change and it’s impact on agriculture, therefore; as we plant these trees we want to provide community members with the adequate nutrients and shade despite the deteriorating environmental conditions.

4-H Zimbabwe has established 8 nutrition gardens in Chiwundura rural district. The organisation has also done ward based conservative farming trainings in the district, in a bid to promote climate adaptation amd mitigation. The organisation also handed over 2 knapsack sprays,100kgs of fertilizer and 50kgs of sugar beans to Chitubu garden for their use. One of the beneficiaries, Esiah Masuku, commended 4-H Zimbabwe for it’s commitment to enhancing livelihoods for community members in Chiwundura rural district. The organisation will continue to do various programs in the Chiwundura area to promote climate change and adaptation.
