On the 30th day of January, 4-H Zimbawe held an educative field day in Ward 12, Chiwundura Rural District. The field day was aimed at building capacity of the community members on crop management as a follow up to the land preparation and crop establishment sessions that took place prior. Executive Director for 4-H Zimbabwe, John Muchenje gave a a brief about the work being done by 4-H Zimbabwe.

He explained how 4-H Zimbabwe seeks to enhance livelihoods in rural communities through Climate Smart and Conservative agricultural trainings. “We want to witness community members that are informed on climate change mitigation and adaptation, with access to a balanced nutrition and access to clean and safe water.” he said. 4-H Zimbabwe has established a total of 8 solar powered boreholes and 8 community gardens in the Chiwundura area.

The organisation has also established 8 community gardens and boreholes in Hurungwe Rural District. The event was attended by representatives from GIZ. Which is an organisation that offers financial support to 4-H Zimbabwe, for the programs taking place in Chiwundura. The local Agritex officers led sessions on crop, weed and pest management including the safety measures to be taken when working with chemicals in the field. Closing the event, the Councillor for the Ward, Yeukai Paradza expressed her gratitude for such an essential initiative that seeks to empower the community.
