Youth from political parties namely CCC, ZANU PF , FreeZim , NCA, MDC , FEEZ , ZCPD, ZIPP, DOP, UZA , UANC have endorsed the youth peace pledge and youth in politics charter on peace in the electoral processes in a bid to promote peace ,inclusion and tolerance in the country before and after the 2023 harmonized elections.
Representatives from political party student unions and CSOs were also present and they also endorsed the youth peace pledge and the youth in politics charter on peace in the electoral processes.
4-H Zimbabwe Foundation has made strides in creating a conducive environment for young people to tolerate, interact and engage to reduce politically motivated and electoral violence in Zimbabwe. The charter will establish a Youth Council for Peace which is a unique platform for various youth political leaders to interface and discuss on political party predicaments and peace building strategies in Zimbabwe. The membership of the council is seconded from all the political parties that are signatories to the charter. The Youth Council for Peace will comprise of two representatives from each of the 11 political parties (gender balenced) that will meet at national level. Moreover; a provincial Youth Council for Peace will also be established for youth representatives from the 11 political parties at a provincial level.
Speaking at the event , 4-H Zimbabwe director Mr John Muchenje stressed on the desire for sustainable peace and development in the country.
He highlighted that after an intensive crafting process and engagements with political parties’ leaders , members , legal team , Parliamentary youth caucus, Ministry of Youth , Arts , Sports and Recreation, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission , Churches and other key stakeholders it is a great pleasure that youth from political parties have all endorsed and taken to consideration the youth peace pledge and the peace charter on electoral processes.
