Peace and Governance
OVERVIEW
The programming area is focused on promoting youth and women’s participation in peace-building, national development, and leadership processes in Zimbabwe. The organisation has facilitated the establishment of the Youth Council for Peace and Development (YCPD), which is a platform for the youth by the youth. The YCPD has created a sustainable platform for youth engagement and youth dialogue, which has been lacking in Zimbabwe. By mainstreaming youth and women’s participation and engagement in its programming, 4-H Zimbabwe seeks to invest in the vulnerable and marginalised groups as the anchors of peace and security, conflict transformation, development, and governance narrative in Zimbabwe. 4-H Zimbabwe’s ability to bring together different young people with varying political ideologies including the ruling party, Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF), and the main opposition party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has been key and will continue to be relevantly critical towards amplifying the political willingness in ensuring peace and security, upholding of human rights and the rule of law, democratic participation and accountable governance in Zimbabwe. 4-H Zimbabwe utilises dialogue, community farmer field schools, community water points, Sport4Peace, and Art4Peace as strategies for peace-building and conflict transformation engagement.
In addition, the organisation has good working arrangements with the Chapter 12 Constitutional Commissions including the Zimbabwe Election Commission (ZEC) on youth voter mobilization and education, the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commissioners (ZHRC) and the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) on youth peace initiatives and also signed MOUs with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training (MoYEDVT) and the Parliament of Zimbabwe for youth friendly policies engagement and advocacy. The ability to coordinate the signing of the first-ever Youth Peace Pledge and the Zimbabwe Youth Charter on Peace in the Electoral Processes in a very polarised environment demonstrates 4-H Zimbabwe`s ability to realise social change in the country.
