4-H Zimbabwe held a training of Chiwundura Rural District AGRITEX Officers ,in Midlands, Zimbabwe.  The training is to capacitate the officers so that they proceed to educate farmers from their respective wards on climate smart agriculture.

The organization is aiming to ensure that Chiwundura women are empowered and their livelihoods are enhanced despite the fluctuating climate conditions. 

Giving welcome remarks, Chiwundura District Head and Agritex Officer Mr Mubaiwa commended the work done by 4-H Zimbabwe in ensuring that women farmers are empowered, food secure, and have access to clean and safe water. 

The women in Chiwundura rural district will be provided with 8 solar powered boreholes and the establishment of 8 nutrition community gardens.

He highlighted the importance of such interventions particularly at a time when there is drought nationwide.

The event was graced by the presence of the Deputy Minister of Health and MP for Chiwundura rural district, Hon S. Kwidini. In his speech he highlighted that such initiatives are essential as they elevate communities and ensure that people understand the impacts of climate change.

Programs Manager for 4-H Zimbabwe Mr Didmus Dewa introduced the Project to the AGRITEX officers. He stressed that the deforestation in Chiwundura Rural District over the past 40 years has been alarming hence the need for such interventions that provide for vegetation through gardens.

Climate expert and researcher Mr Murewi also gave a  presentation  on the impact of climate change on agriculture.He articulated Climate data analysis over the years from 1980-2024. He gave a deeper understanding as to why it is essential for Agritex officers to record all information.

The representative for the Permanent secretary office Mr Munamati said that the work done by 4-H Zimbabwe is complementary to the vision of the government and that the government is in full support of such interventions.

“We need to adopt technology and not be left behind, times are moving and we need to move with the times. The tablets that are being donated today by 4-H Zimbabwe should assist all the the farmers to easily communicate and keep record of all information,” she said.
