4-H Zimbabwe Foundation ropes in Lorraine Guyo, Peter Moyo to encourage youths to vote

4-H Zimbabwe Foundation communications officer – Michelle Ncube said: “As artistes have a large following, we’ll be working with Lorraine Guyo and Peter Moyo before roping in others from Matabeleland when we launch the campaign in that region.

“Our motive is to try by all means to enlighten youths on the importance of voting and making it clear to them that all this is possible if one has an ID or a valid passport. We want youths to strongly participate during the elections as they constitute about 68% of the country’s population. They deserve a chance to decide their future for themselves,” said Ncube.

“Voter registration following the 2018 harmonised elections has been worryingly low. If young people do not register to vote and participate in elections, their distinct interests are more likely to be ignored or neglected by policy-makers thus as 4-H Zimbabwe Foundation, we are therefore encouraging the youths to get their IDs and register now,” said Ncube.

4-H Zimbabwe is encouraging the youth to ensure they have their IDs or valid Passports in check so that they can be able to vote in the 2023 elections. National IDs as evidenced to be the only documents required for the pre-voting and voting processes, play a very significant role in the process.

This campaign by 4-H Zimbabwe came by after they tried examining reasons as to why the youth do not fully participate during the elections. The reason most of these youths don’t have IDs is because they have lost them , and don’t have any reason or motivation to get new ones. Whereas , some get comfortable using their birth certificates in places of their IDs even after they have turned 18 years.

4-H Zimbabwe Foundation aims to promote Gender Equality through agriculture.

As a youth empowerment organization  that mainly targets young female farmers and assumes the consciousness of women about their rights, economic empowerment and women’s overall development.4-H Zimbabwe hosted Young Women in Agriculture Pfumvudza Awards 2021 as a way of promoting gender equality through agriculture.

These awards were meant to motivate young female farmers to not give up on what they do . This will also allow these young farmers to produce for sustenance and excess for sale to enable enhanced livelihoods, healthy living, economic independence and sustainability of the projects that will resultantly benefit households, communities and the nation at large.

"Our aim is to organize these women into agricultural clubs that will be training farmers and also discussing gender issues. It is clear that the economic empowerment of females also addresses other social effects such as gender based violence," said John Muchenje the director for 4-H Zimbabwe Foundation.

In these clubs , women will be grouped according to their location and proximity to one another. A leader for each group will be selected and will thereby facilitate these trainings. Women will be taught how to produce different types of crops to being made aware of their rights in the country.

This gesture falls into one of 4-H Zimbabwe Foundation's main objectives thus to promote sustainable agriculture through empowerment and facilitation of the role of young people. Their theme "musha mukadzi murimu, promoting gender equality through agriculture" clearly proves how much the organization is advocating for gender equality through agriculture.
